Kuhz an der Knatter I Uckermark

After our beloved Kuhz Church was “orphaned” in summer 2002 – the pastor transferred to another church and the parsonage sold – the community was in danger of losing its central meeting place. But then a group of unhappy aficionados came together to save it. Old-time residents and more recent ones from the big cities, even people who only knew Kuhz from their world travels, all joined forces to preserve the building – a building that had always been the center of village life.

On January 18, 2003, an association, the Friends of the Kuhz Church, was established. In addition to doing community work, the seventeen founding members decided to develop a concept for using the church for cultural activities, as well as for raising money to restore the building, which is listed as a historical monument.

Restoration of the Kuhz Church began in summer 2007. In the first phase, the tower was stabilized, which meant replacing much of the supporting structure. On June 15, 2008, the tower was topped and with it the first phase of construction was completed.
